Message: "The Rules of the House"

It is not always as easy to tell a rule of denominations apart from rules common to the whole church. Many denominations explicitly teach that their rules are the “real” house rules and that all of these other rooms [denominations] simply have it wrong. My faith as a whole does not depend on these "room" beliefs. They are not necessary rules for the house. If you try to make these too necessary, or enforce them as rules common to all of the other rooms, you are dividing the church and shutting out wisdom from centuries and centuries of our forebears. However, if the Church is a house, we need rules that are common to the whole house. The trinity of God, the humanity and divinity of Jesus, the death and bodily resurrection first of Christ, and someday the renewal of all creation. These are fundamental necessities for Christianity. You cannot hold these too loosely or you find yourself with nothing left in your hand.
