First United Methodist Church of Champaign, Downtown

210 West Church Street • Champaign, IL 61820 • (217) 356-9078 • Office Hours: Mon-Fri 8:30am-4:30pm

There are 4 ways to join First United Methodist Church in Champaign:

1. By Profession of Faith and Baptism

If you are not now a baptised Christian, the minister will be happy to discuss the meaning of the Sacrament with you in your home or in his study at your convenience.

2. By Transfer From Another United Methodist Church

Mark the "Wish to Join" column on the Pew Pad or Visitor Information Card and a member of the Church staff will contact you. You may request that we write for your letter of transfer — it is not necessary for you to write your former church, FUMC can handle the details of transfer for you! You may also call the Church at the number listed above during normal office hours, or you may e-mail your request to info@champaignfumc.org.

3. By Transfer From Another Christian Denomination

The process is very much like the one above. Since you are already baptized and confirmed, these steps will not be repeated. You will be asked to take the one vow taken by all members of the United Methodist Church: "Will you be loyal to the United Methodist Church and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your gifts and your service?"

4. Transfer of Your Membership From a Denomination
That Will Not Accept Your Transferring Across Denominational Lines

Your baptism is accepted. You will be reconfirmed in a process called Renewal of Vows.

How to "Join" Without "Joining"

If you are a United Methodist whose membership is in another city or state and you wish to retain membership in your "home" church, you can become an Affiliate Member of First United Methodist Church. This grants you pastoral oversight, fellowship and participation at First United Methodist Church of Champaign. You will not be counted on FUMC's membership roll, but at your "home" church. We will write your "home" church informing them of your Affiliate Member status at FUMC.

Members of other Christian denominations may elect to become Associate Members under the same conditions.
